Heller"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Our Attorney General, Bob McDonnell, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oag.state.va.us\/PRESS_RELEASES\/NewsArchive\/121807_MultiState_Amicus_BearArms.html\">announced<\/a> yesterday that Virginia will be joining the multi-state amicus against DC in the upcoming SCOTUS showdown over the Second Amendment.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Speaking about his decision to join an amicus brief supporting the individual right to bear arms, Attorney General McDonnell noted, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153The right to bear arms secured in the Bill of Rights is a right \u00e2\u20ac\u0153of the people.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d We believe that our founders declared, in the Second Amendment, that American citizens have the personal right to bear arms as individuals.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d           <\/p>\n<p>McDonnell continued noting, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Attorney General Greg Abbott of Texas will file the lead brief with the Supreme Court in defense of this position. I have informed him that Virginia will join the multi-state amicus brief in support. The Heller case will likely be the most important Second Amendment case in American history. The result will have significant implications on individual liberty and the power of government. For this reason it is imperative that Virginia\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s position on the fundamental individual right to bear arms is clearly articulated.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>For those playing along at home, notice that he states this is about personal liberty and a fundamental individual right, but doesn&#8217;t mention a damn thing about hunting, &#8220;sporting purposes,&#8221; or some such.
